I have read that EC can work up to 120 hours after unprotected sex. I have also heard that it only works for up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. I understand that the sooner it's taken, the better. But I took Plan B approximately 85 hours after I had unprotected sex. Is it still effective?

Keep in mind that "emergency contraception" sometimes works as a contraceptive.....and sometimes as an abortifacient.

If you conceived (and didn't know it) and then take the pill within a few days, the high dosage of hormones will terminate the newly conceived life.

The facts are, since you can't know for sure what will happen, don't use the pill. Instead, practice abstinence. It is the responsible and mature thing to do.

If you have had unprotected sexual intercourse in the last couple of days, emergency contraception can help to prevent pregnancy, provided that you take the emergency contraception within 120 hours (5 days) after intercourse. Call the toll free help line at 1-800-600-6586 for more information.

I got this off of the internet and saved it to a question i answered a long time ago therefore i do not recall the website's name or link
