its for a bio project and my teacher just asked for the salinity she didnt give any specifics about it but i couldnt find really any helpful information on websites. most groups are doing the rainfall in their area but since this is an ocean, we have to do salinity. i also need to know the salinity of tropical oceans

Sea water contains about 2.5% salts, as compared to 0.85% NaCl in saline.

That's right. Salinity changes depending on where you take the sample. Follow the fresh water dumped into the ocean as it follows the gulf stream around the world. Then the depth must be taken into consideration. Heavier salt water will and to sink. If the salt content gets to be too high, it effects life. Also, the temperate ocean could be several temperatures. Was there any specific depth?

It really depends on the area, as salinity varies in different parts of the ocean.

About 3.5%, on the average. It is lower at the mouths of rivers and higher in seas with relatively small connections to other bodies of water (e.g.the Red Sea). I would guess that tropical oceans have more salt because of higher rates of evaporation.
