The politicians don't have to pay for their medical benefits, and they can double dip by receiving both Social Security and their private pension plan, neither of which do they have to make any payments or contributions to at any time they are in office! They also receive free flights on government aircraft if space is available, plus food and housing provided at any military facility if they are traveling! For them everything is just gratis. Yet the public and rank and file people are required to pay and pay and pay and yet they receive virtually nothing in return for their contributions! It has to stop immediately! No more double standards, them and us! No more distinctions! I say they all should be tarred and feathered, run out on a rail and SOAK THE RICH!

Its one of their benefits. You may not think it but they actually do a lot of work and do not really get paid accordingly for how much they do. Sure they make a lot more money than the average person does. But they are helping to run a country and represent a large number of people. So they get health care. Who cares? I get health care cause I have a job too. Most employers provide health care. And if you work at one that does not provide health care than either you work for a crappy company and dont have a real job or you are a business owner in which case you chose that for yourself.

They also vote themselves a raise. We pay for it.
They also get a generous pension that we pay for.

I don't have healthcare for life (unless I pay for it). I don't have a pension. I don't even have a 401K. I have a Roth IRA and past 401Ks. I'm not eligible for the 401K here until January 1st. (That is wrong. I should be able to contribute on a tax free basis right away.)

These people representing "us" (lol) are millionaires and as if they need additional money or benefits from us non-millionaires tax payers. I'm young. I have time. I'm trying but it's an uphill battle even when you do all the supposed right things, the best you can with what you have been given from above (parents, etc.) and society.

Hi ike,

Because they are the ruling class and really don't give a damn about the great unclean masses. Do you know what you call a lawyer up to his/her neck in wet cement?.........Not enough cement......The whole lot should be thrown out & start over again with "farmers, bakers & candlestick makers"....or something like that. You can see that I have a great passion about this subject......Maybe I'll expound some more soon....Jim P

because the system is corrupt and broken. What is good for the goose is OBVIOUSLY not good for the gander. The politicians realize that health care IS NECESARY, for them that is. However they would not be able to line their pockets quite as nicely if the same healthcare were to be offered to joe citizen. There is a bottom line to think about after all...

"because I get health care from my job as a benefit" answer.

Which doesn't account for the fact that more then likely your benefit does not follow you to the grave after retirement.

The ones who write the rules, that "benefit" follows them to the grave.

They don't, they get a health plan through there place of employment, like most hard working Americans.

Because that is the way they set it up...they consider themselves very important and as a result they have the best health care the tax payers can give them......BUT...remember, we're only talking about funding health care for hundreds....thats bad enough....don't buy into the notion that we could afford the health care of hundreds of millions....THAT, would be a disaster....hundreds is easy to manage and afford....hundreds of millions....impossible.

because, they really think they deserve it! If they had to live like the average American, or, just do the job we Americans hired them to do, we would all be EQUALLY enjoying our great country, instead of just the "rich" folks! We should all have to follow the SAME rules! The military protects and fights for our country, and the people in it, why shouldn't... the politicians do the same?
