I worked at Best Buy and you wouldn't believe how many of these walked out the door and came back only weeks later. Quality is poor. I wouldn't waste your money on it. I would reccomend Creative Zen. They are a heck of a lot cheaper and stand up to a lot more. My husband owns a 30gb and myself an 8gb and you wouldn't believe how many times we have dropped each and never had a problem. iPod you drop it... the screen cracks or stops playing songs. Hope this helps you decide!

well how old is she? i suggest if... shes like

7-10 get the shuffle
11-15 get the nano
16- above get the ipod video (the original big one)

but then again it also is important how much shes into music- will she use it always or once in a while--- does she alwayslisten 2 music and have lots of it?,, then u can go from there. for my 1st ipod i had the shuffle then nano then the original one.

i suggest stick with the nano- the only reason i got the big one was cuz im deploed so i need just a tad bit more, but the nano is great,,, specially the new generation nano's they have now.... pretty cool.... also make sure u get it in her fav color!

hope i helped

most iPods are generally the same. Except that some have video and then they vary buy capacity. If she is REALLY into music, I would say get a bigger hard drive. I have a 20GB and have about 3K songs on it. And there is still plenty of room. I am against the extra money for the video option. It seems like a cool feature, but how often do you actually use it? Me, never.
You just need to look at how much music she listens to and if she is into video.
Try going to apple.com and compare. But look around the internet for a good price.

there is two hot new items apple is offering. there's the video ipod nano (what i would get) which is just a smaller square shaped video ipod that comes in a myriad of colors and then there's the new ipod touch. the ipod touch is in the vein of the iphone in that looks almost exactly the same and has a visual interface, the only difference between the two is that you can't make phone calls.
besides the fact that it has more storage, i find the video nano to be more stylish because of the fact you can get it in any color under the sun. and what's the point of the touch anyway? the video ipod can store all your music, video, and pictures perfectly. that's all you really need anyway

Are you using Ipod and MP3 player interchangeably?
If you mean Ipod only, they are all good quality. I personally prefer an Ipod with a screen, so that leaves out the Shuffle. Then you just need to decide how much memory you need. You can go Nano with as little as 1GB or full blown Ipod Video with up to 160 GB.

She knows which one she wants. Ask her. She will tell you all the latest gadgets and tricks of them. I heard one story with the new Nanos burning in someone's pocket (all over the news when it happened), but check to see how many songs could be stored on each one. I bought one for my daughter and I (she's almost 6) and it only plays like 240 songs (which to me that's a lot). People now days listen to such a wide variety the bigger the memory then best it is for them. There's also the ones that play videos and movies. If you take long car trips those would be ideal.

iPods are pretty much price fixed. Get her an iPod nano - video. They are ~ 200, and are small. Great gift. If she is athletic an armband can be purchased. No reason to get a 20/40/60GB iPod. MOST people don't put more than a few GB of data on them.

Don't forget... the most important part of buying an iPod is the color. :-) Enjoy!

properly in the experience that your in specific searching for an Ipod, then for her i might bypass with eithor the 8gb Nano ($one hundred fifty) or the 16gb Nano ($2 hundred) the only extra inexpensive ones are the shuffles that are available in a million and 2gbs and are $50 and $one hundred, yet for the little yet better the nano is worth it... shuffles can only play music and shuffle songs around, at the same time as nanos can play movies, video games, music, alarms, etc. and the nano is properly suited with all Ipod upload-ons, at the same time as the shuffle isn't... the shuffle is effective for some thing like excirsising the place you only honestly need it to play music... the nano is only extra exciting:)
