ask around and find out who does good work and has a reasonable price on their work, people will tell you who is good and who isn't ,usually the smaller shops will give you a lot better service than the larger ones because they will appreciate your business, that's the best way to find a good one,and when you do stay with them they,ll get to know your car ,and can help keep it running for a long time, good luck.

i was a mechanic for the army for 3 years, i was also the only female mech. in my unit. now that i'm a civilian no body would ever look at me and go " bet she can turn a wrench" so when i go to a mechanic i look for a mechanic that can explain things to me without a bunch of technical mumbojumbo, or a mechanic thats not aggrivated by me asking questions. if they have done a good job they should be glad to show you and explain things to you. sometimes a little hole in the wall shop is better than a big commercial repair shop. good luck

I as quickly as relied on my labmate as to who became a good mechanic and that they tried to tear my ex-spouse off. The idiots loosened and moved a timing screw and pronounced the automobile opt for $six hundred in upkeep. I went back together with her and pronounced we did not opt for to get it mounted. Then some days later yet another Indian (lady) sent us to an Indian mechanic who became a maximum suitable mechanic and an truthful guy. He laughed and pronounced her vehicle did not have a timing chain, it had a timing belt. Then he confirmed is the screw and pronounced, "See you will discover the place it became in the previous, and he moved the screw back and all became properly. the factor is merely a retard could think of the intercourse of a individual had something to do with choosing a good mechanic. hint, hint.

Ask 100 people if they have a mechanic that they trust, that lives and dies by his reputation. This is free information. Tabulate the data and see who wins.
You don't do it by the guy's looks.
I would carefully avoid any big company. They have a team of corporate lawyers to take you on. Their reputations are terrible. Everybody thinks that they are all crooks, and they still seem to be in business.

I ask around, it's especially important if you're woman trying not to get ripped off. If you mention a reference to the mechanic, it should mean something to him, reputation is really important in a small town like where I live. He won't last too long before word gets around if he rips everyone off.

Word of mouth is good. I also look for a clean shop with modern equipment. You might also contact the Better Business Bureau.
