Product and services research. If I am looking for a specific item I'll use the Internet to check-out product availability, warranties, specs etc from different retailers in my area. If I want to go to a store I've never used before I'll go on-line to find their location.
If I want to try a new restaurant I'll check on-line for location, hours of service, and menu items.
If I want to find a listing of companies that perform a service such as duct cleaning, lawn services, or catering I'll use an Internet search.
If your company does not have an Internet presence then you are missing out on how a number of people shop including other businesses. There might be a few small businesses that might not truly benefit from an Internet presence but with the costs being so very low to set-up a web-page and keep it on-line why not pursue it? It is like putting an add in the yellow pages. The risk is small and the rewards potentially large if it draws more customers to you then would otherwise be the case.

Because that's the way most people today find information on products, services or companies that they might want to do business with. (higher levels of computer literacy go with higher level of disposable income and makes for better customers)

Most of my business comes from people googling the service I offer in the area I offer it. So, no google, no paycheque. If your business won't be seeking clients, you don't need a website.
Email however is crucial. It is the communication standard in most industries today.

It isn't a belief, its a fact.
Consumers want to learn more about you at their own leisure and their own space, whether its at home or office.
so the trend is developing very rapidly in today's world....if you aren't on the web...you aren't being considered.
