History on the study of why people want to learn?

I'm doing a research paper for Psych 101. Anyone have a link to a website that explains the history of the study of what motivates people to learn? I had a hard time looking it up but I need a good link.

We learn so we can communicate, I don't know any links but think about a child, they learn to talk and walk and get into everything, and all the time they are learning to communicate. We wouldn't have any wars if we could sit down and talk would we, think about it.
