Some things were simpler - when I was a child in Hertfordshire in the 50's England was less crowded, the roads had less traffic, there was less noise, and we kids could go safely out to play in the local parks, woods and fields all day. In the evening or if the weather was bad we played all sorts of imaginative or creative games, cards or board games, or read - there were only a few kids' tv programmes on the two channels available around tea time - in black and white of course. No computers, playstations, ipods, mobile phones - if you were really lucky you might have a small record player.

Things seem simple when we are young and trouble free, for most of us. But then we get older and have to work, pay bills, deal with relationships, all that good stuff that causes us to age faster, get sick, and stress to the point where some of us wanna kill ourselves. Sometimes that has nothing to do with it and "simple" is just a state of mind.

What was so good about high levels of illiteracy and infant mortality; no workers rights; foreign travel for the rich only; common fatal illnesses like measles, TB and small pox; working 12 hours a day and 6 days per week, doffing your cap to your social superiors; no anaesthetics; and no contraception.
The good old days my foot.

Back in the '50's you could leave your door unlocked, your bike out on the front lawn & no one would steal it. Gas was 27 cents/gal. No one had a computer!
