I'd wonder WTF? Ain't no elk in New York! Whitetail and moose, and even bears, yes - but no elk.

I'd call the local TV stations... an elk in Texas would be like a snowstorm in July! We get a lot of deer in the yards in Central Texas... eating everyone's gardens! But now an elk would be a sight!!!

I'd definitely get a camera. Here in central Texas an elk in the garden would be quite a rare occurrence indeed!

I would be like Honey! Theirs a big deer-lookin thing in our garden (which we don't have but I'll play along) and he would come and we would look out the window and try to figure out what exactly kinda animal the elk was since we live in mississippi and neither one of us has ever seen one and I'm not 100 % certain what one looks like

I would keep it safe from harm and call the newspapers and TV stations and get my 15 Min's of fame. Plus the elk would get the proper care may be in a wild life sanctuary.

My first impulse is to grab the 30-06 (a large calibre rifle for you that don't know)....but since I live in a city this might disturb the neighbors.
Stay inside, as confronting an animal as large as an elk could be hazardous to your well being.
Then, contact police and Animal Control.
Then grab the digital camera. Click away!!

Well Squiff,
Depends on whats in that garden. If hes out there eating my tomato plants, I think I'd open the window and yell at him.
Maybe throw a shoe at him or something.

Erect a large tent over it and have an elk party to which I would invite my friends, neighbours, whores and unknown passers-by.

We get deer in ours. They ate my veggies, and even ate my rosebuds.
Someone told me to cut up a bar of Irish Spring soap (a very aromatic, strong smelling soap) and sprinkle that around the roses. That seemed to help.
