Usually the on call doctor at the hospital does. My last doctor delivered my baby, as he worked right across the street from the hospital, but my current doctor is across town and said the on call doctor would do it.

My doctors office had 5 different OB's in it. When I was delivering I had 2 doctors. The first 6 hours I had one Ob and the last 6 another one who actually delivered her. It was between a shift change. It just depends who is on and who is off. You should talk to your doctor about what you want. It didnt bother me because I knew all the doctors and they are all amazing!!

Mothers deliver babies, doctors just catch them!
But to your question.....it depends on your doctor. Most OB's work in a practice of doctors and they take turns being on call on evenings and weekends. In those practices, you are advised to book at least one pregnancy check up visit with each so that you can meet them all (usually after 28 weeks). Any one of them could be on call when you go into labor.
Some doctors work independently and limit how many patients they take at any given time to insure that they will actually be present at the birth of your baby. These are hard to find.
It is important to find a team of doctors that you trust. But be aware that the doctor spends very little time with you while you labor. Nurses are in and out of the room steadily but they are not always present either.

Your OB is usually the one to deliver your baby, knowing more about you and your health. He should be on call, but if he is in another surgery or absent from the hospital, you would get a doctor that works with him.

My ob/gyn delivered my son I was induced so I don't know about the whole on call thing, but I would say it depends on your doctor. When I had my son it was on a Friday and my doctor was not on call that entire weekend so I actually was checked upon (had a cesarean) by another ob/gyn. Monday my doctor came back and gave me the okay to go home.

Yes your ob should deliver your baby. If it happens when another doctor on call you may get another doctor. 2 of my kids were delivered by nurses. Because they came to quick.

Every office is different, you should ask you doctor about their office policies. All of the doctors in my ob/gyn office worked together, so you would see all of the doctors during your pregnancy, and then whoever was on call when you were ready to deliver is who would deliver your baby.

If they get there on time...yes.
My OB didn't deliver my first, it was another OB from the same clinic - she wasn't taking on call duty on weekends anymore at that stage, because she was due 2 weeks after me. :)

I guess that's the way it's supposed to be. Unfortunately, the woman who was my ob/gyn for my entire pregnancy was "unavailable" the night my daughter was cut out of me, and the surgeon who delivered her was Dr. MEANY. He made the whole experience awful for me.
