cut out a black paper silhouette of a hawk in flight and tape it on the window - works like a charm. Most bird stores (seed, feeders, etc - amazing the things stores will specialize in) now sell vinyl ones that stick on easily and peel off when you need to clean the window.

If your window is across from another window, the bird sees trees and/or open sky, and thinks it can fly right through. You could hang a sheer curtain, a plant or mobile in the window, and the bird probably won't try to fly in anymore. You can also put up decorations that are put on sliding glass patio doors, (so that someone can tell if the door is open or closed and doesn't walk into it).

If you have a mirror on the wall directly in front of the window, move it. The bird is seeing the reflection of the outside and thinks it can fly into it.

Silly bird!

You might try hanging a suncatcher or some other decoration in your window so the cardinal will see it.

Good luck!
