First of all, my opinions concerning school are rather unpopular, just so you know. But here goes:
I see nothing wrong with an occasional skip day. Maybe one every few months. When I was a teenager, there were some days where my mother would look at me in the morning and say, "What do you think you're doing?" And I'd say, "Getting ready for school. Why?" She'd then say, "No, you're not. Get back to bed, go watch TV or go read a book. You're taking your mental health break today." That's what she called them: mental health breaks. She always said that every once in a while, you need to take it easy and just be lazy for a day or you'd lose your mind.
I think of it as preventative maintenance. Our health involves more than just our bodies. Sometimes our minds get overworked and we just need to relax for one day. When you consider all the real problems that can arise from being overstressed, (ulcers, migraines, depression and others) a day off school (or work) once in a while is far less damaging to everyone involved.
I know I'm the minority opinion here and that's all it really is: an opinion. Your mom has your best interests at heart and it's her right and responsibility to lay down the rules that she feels are right. You may not agree with your mom, but for now, she's the one in charge. You might want to mention the preventative maintenance aspect of an occasional skip day to her, but if she's still opposed, you have to abide by her decision.
By the way, for those out there that might criticize my mom's approach, (and there are people out there that have e-mailed me, telling me that my mother was irresponsible and so am I) I'd like to point out that neither my brother nor I can be classified as "slackers," nor was our academic performance adversely affected by our lazy days. Quite the contrary: both of us were members of the National Honor Society when we graduated at the top of our classes. I'd say Mom did a pretty good job.

I hope that my view will be a little more refreshing then everyone on here so far.
I am an honor roll student, taking AP classes since last year(im a senior too), and you know what? Sometimes I just need a day off.I have had 26 combined throught my high school career(5 just this year so far lol) and I turned out fine. It's our last year before we have to really get serious about school(at least for me because I am planning on going to a good law school afterwards) and taking a few days off here and there will not hurt you as long as you know that you can handle it.
Actually, I am taking a day off tomorrow so that I can make my thanksgiving weekend 5 days :)

definite - and with parental approval. I had an settlement with mom and dad that I attended substantial classes and those which I had chosen for the final 2 years of school yet they did no longer care if i did no longer pass to those that have been of little need to me or my destiny in any respect. those lined PE - I had adequate workout doing a paper around, strolling a cycling everywhere as we did no longer have a vehicle. RE - what replaced into the ingredient? i did no longer have self belief, wound instructors up by using thinking each thing and coming up with a logical answer so would be much less complication to me, the college and them. Needlework and cookery - did that at domicile so what replaced into the ingredient and why is it so substantial that a tacking stich is 5/8 of an inch long - we had to degree them!!! A win win challenge. I left with sturdy examination ends up in subjects that mattered, used that beyond ordinary time to do homework and revision (nicely, a number of it besides) and replaced into plenty greater comfortable at examination time and that i respected my mom and dad for their reasoning and information. This replaced into interior the Nineteen Seventies, no longer particularly that previous!!

We only had ONE senior skip day at our school every year and all of the staff/parents were aware of it. And we chose the day that grades 9-11 had to do testing so we weren't missing any classes. Having more than ONE senior skip day is pushing the limits if you ask me.

You're right, there are self proclaimed senior skip days, and I definitely agree that you should take part in them!! Skipping classes is a part of being in high school, haha!! If you just want one day off, I'd tell your mom how you feel. Don't make a habit out of it though!! You're going to miss high school one day for sure, and you'll also miss the days when you not being able to skip school was your biggest of problems :)...
Good luck non-the-less, have fun, and stay smart!!

Go to school when you feel well, it will teach you accountability, responsibility and punctuality. If you really don't want to go claim a mental health day. My mom gave me two mental health days per semester. Days when I could say you know what I'm sick of it, I need a break!!! But I was responsible for keeping my grades up, etcetera. And on our official senior skip day, she said I guess its tradition, whats one day gonna hurt? We all went to the beach (we live on the texas coast) and who was waiting at the ferry to pluck us off? A truant officer. Oh the fun I had that day. Be careful! School is good for you!! I wish all I had to do all day was go to highschool! Aw, the good life.

um hun im only in 10th grade but i know that seniors cant just skip cause they are seniors. the school might not do any thing about it but colleges are still looking...and unless your school is special, if you miss a certain amount of days you will be denied credit from your classes..and then you have work to make up, so its not a break for you its actully more work since you have to go home and make up for what you did in class and then the hw. so yea don't skip. its not cool and all because your tired in the morning that doesn't mean you can do what ever you want. i have to get up at 6 am, im tired but i still go to school.. sorry

You should NOT miss school. School is very important! You need your credits to graduate. And to get your credits, you need to go to school. Do you want to go to college so you can get a good paying job? Do you want to be able to support your kids when you have some?
Tests are a very important thing as well. It seems that you really don't want to put in alot of effort to try and get all your credits.
It's sad that kids don't take school very seriously. School is very important to help get a good paying job.
Please, go to school. If you are not sick then you should be at school, not home. The only reason you should be able to be at home is if there's no school on that day, or else you're sick.
