I had a refund check from a verizon store mailed to me for 86.90. I never recieved it. So I called the store and they say it was cashed on Oct.29th. and at the bank that i bank at! They have a copy of it so i can come see the signature after work today. Do you think the bank would of let my husband cash a check written to me if we have a joint bank acct? or do you think a stranger like a neighbor that got the wrong mail could've done it?

how does soemone even get away with that without id at a bank ?

You know what, it may seem like a very small amount but the fact is your husband LIED about cashing it. It doesn't matter that the funds were deposited into your joint account (has he spent it???) but the check was not his to cash in the first place. It's one thing if he felt like he was doing you a favor and decided to deposit it at the bank for you and then told you, but he was dishonest. I would be very watchful and extremely careful if I were you. Small things lead to bigger things. You don't want to request a copy of your credit report one day and you see several loans and "surprise" debt.

If he can lie about this, what next?!!!

If you can get Verizon to pull a copy of the canceled check -- front and back -- it should be possible to trace (from all the numbers stamped on it during processing) exactly what bank it went into and what account number it either went into or was cashed against. Even though it is only $86.90, you may be able to get the police to help you prod Verizon into giving this information and help interpreting the numbers. WHEN TALKING TO THEM INDICATE THAT THIS IS PROBABLY NOT YOU ALONE. There could be hundreds of such checks being intercepted in a massive scam. Emphasize to them that you may be only the tip of the iceberg of a massive fraud scheme.

Most banks will allow a spouse to cash a check if they are also on the account. You may see your account number on the check also since many banks write it on them. My guess goes with hubby cashing it.

Ask for a copy of the check front and back. If your name was forged, then talk to the bank who cashed it, even if it was your husband - it's against the law even for your husband! I did it to my now-ex. A marriage license does NOT give them the right to FORGE YOUR NAME!

----------->>> Take it to the POLICE IMMEDIATELY to file charges!
