This is possible and yes you can do this.

But.. I would think after a while of swapping them in and out that your computer will begin to get confused. You'll notice after a while that things will begin to fail on you.

Why not do this.. install the operating system on a different partition of the hard drive? You have your operating system select in the beginning.. so just use the extra hard drive for general storage.

Not a problem, I do this all the time. I run Vista, XP, and Ubuntu Linux in the same computer by simply changing dirve trays. What you need is a mobil rack. It fits in one of your 5 1/4 inch bays and has a removable tray in which the hard dirve is located. You would need one rack and two or more trays, one for each drive. Click on the link below to see what they look like.

If you mean external hardisk,no problem.Same as internal hardisk you can install XP on one and Vista on the other (this is highly recommended).First install the XP on your master hardisk (usually C:) than when you install Vista it will ask you which drive, choose the slave hardisk .After everything is OK when you boot it will ask you to choose which os you want.Earlier version of windows wil be the XP.

sure you could - you merely might desire to make valuable the jumper settings are desirable: a million hard drive is desperate by using fact the grasp (that could be the bootable O/S) and the 2nd would be set as a slave storage gadget.
