We just bought a dishwasher and we got the plumping and water hooked up. Now we just need electricity. Instead of a plug in it's 2 wires. How do I do this? I know it need to be hooked up to the breaker box somehow, which is right underneath the floor of where the dishwasher will be. Will I need more wire? And fuses? Special tools? Help, thanks!

Please don't answer with "Call a professional". Because as if I didn't already consider that. I'm asking because I am a doer and like to do things myself to save money. Actually, I went to the store, bought an extension cord, 2 wire nets, and a male plug end and I'm making my own cord the for dishwasher. Answerer number 2 is the closest answer to what I was looking for so far... THANKS!

It sounds like you need an electrician. If you are asking this question, it's obvious you don't work with electricity. You will need to have a fused electrical circuit run up behind the dishwasher, and then hook the diswasher to it.

Hire a pro on this and have it done right.

Additional Details:
You bought a cord? I am sure you checked the power requirements of the dishwasher and sized the cord properly according to the National Electric Code. You will still need to install a breaker in your box, run a wire from the box to under your counter, and install a recepticle. I repeat, this is not a job for a "doer", it's a job for someone who will install what you need according to the NEC so you don't burn down your castle. Bite the bullet and hire someone who is licensed to do the work. Watch and learn, and the next time you will have a better idea of what you need to do.

If you bought an extension cord, you don't know how to do it. It doesn't get hooked to the breaker box. Call a handy man. Save yourself the aggravation

A dishwasher is only 110 volts..cut your power off...go into the receptacle ..take the cover off..the wires on the washer should be white and black..black being the hot wire, white is the nuetral...wire in black to black and white to white within the receptacle box..You do not have to go to the breaker box, just a covered union or receptacle box..as long as the breaker is proper amperage..Depending on what ever else you run on the circuit u "hardwire" it into...

Use Cooper wire # 12, circuit breaker 20 Amps and a junction box by the dishwasher.
all you need is a screw driver, and you must strip the wire
with anything you have available.
when you open you circuit breaker box, pay attention how
the connections are made, and remember you are dealing with electricity.

PS
your dishwasher is supposed to be connected inside the junction box, and not with a power cord.
you may also check your local code

Good Luck

You need to go to the hardware store and get a 3-4 foot long plug and cord. Sometimes they call it a pigtail.
You will also need a metal romex cable connector and several wirenuts.
Find the wiring connection at the dishwasher,(usually botton/rear) and connect white to white, black to black and green to ground. Make sure connections are tight.
Generally, dishwashers and garbage disposals do not come with electrical cords.
