i have a motorola sbv5220 surfboard cable modem and i need to know which would be a good adapter so i can use internet wirelessly from my laptop.

You need a wireless router. I would suggest either a D-Link or Linksys. They are really easy to setup just follow the intructions.

What you need is called a WIFI router. Plug the cable from the modem into the router, run a second cable to your desk top. The router will do the rest. Do remember to secure your signal because the router will be broadcasting your internet signal out to about 500 feet or so.

Though you should probably read up on security for wireless networks first, if you set up an unsecured network your neighbours (or anyone who drives by) will be able to use your Internet access for whatever they want (and if it gets traced it gets traced to you).

I'd look for a router that can handle 802.11a and g and possibly draft n but aside from that buying based on price probably isn't going to cause you to go too far wrong.
