Somewhat. At least they're trying to move in the right direction. Hopefully they will eventually move to a superior form of government, but this takes time. They've endured Communism for so long, Socialism is the next logical step. Once they realize Socialism isn't much different from Communism, they'll move to Capitalism. Only then can their societies truly prosper.

If you mean, "are socialist parties prospering in the USA after the fall of the USSR," I'd say no.

Political socialism has been growing weaker since the 1940s. Libertarian socialism faced the same repression as political socialism (in the Red Scare and McCarthyism, which targeted opponents of Stalin as much as supporters of him) but has been growing stronger since the 1960s. Consider the counter-globalization movement; libertarian socialism is the most influential perspective within the movement.

If your question is, "Are Socialist parties in the USA prospering after the collapse of the USSR?" then an American can probably give a better answer than I can but there I think there is still a mistrust of anything that is seen to be even remotely socialist even now, and it is more to do with the assumption in America of anything being "big government" tyrannical, and entrenching on freedoms.

Some socialist parties are prospering... such as in Venezuela... but the USSR isn't trying to get into the USA anymore... those days are over.
