well, no debt is an obvious one. And you don't get "bill shock" when the credit card statement comes. You also don't have to worry about people getting your credit card number.

And when you spend with cash it hurts more. Buying $200 worth of clothes is easy with the swipe of a card. But if you actually have to count out twenties - its really painful. Really, really painful when you think abotu how many hours it took you to earn that money.

Plus you have bargaining leverage when you use cash. Ever flash cash at a car dealer - they start to drool. You can negotiate a better deal with cash - whether its a better price on a car or getting a perk like buying furniture with cash and negotiating for free delivery. Merchants have to pay a 3% fee to VISA when you use your credit card so the LOVE to see cash folks coming.

And I like what lb (the guy above me) said - courts can't subpoena cash - why do you think Tony Soprano keeps so much cash in his ceiling??? HA! But it is also a good way to keep your spouse from knowing what you spent - no incriminating credit card statement!

Easy to see when you run out. Most of us spend less when we try not to use credit. Debit cards unless you are very careful can get expensive with overdraft fees so having to record each transaction and do correct math is important.
When you decide your budget is 150 for the week for gas and food using cards you can lose tract and over spend, put 150 in your wallet, buy gas, stop at 2-3 stores then you look and only have $25 left you know what you have for the rest of the week.

Privacy: your spending habits are not stored away in some banking database for marketing companies to data mine. Your spouse won't see how you spent that money. The courts cannot subpoena your credit card history.
