Can someone tell me what they think of Call of Duty 4 (if they have played it)? Be specific if you like/don't like it. What are the new cool effects (like weaponry, tactics, sounds, graphics)? What's bad about the game?

Superior graphics. Like COD 2 (I haven't tried 3) the AI is much smarter and runs for cover. The AI in COD4 also has the 'rag doll' effect. I other words limbs flop and hand loose and bodes will actually slide off of a building or platform when taken down.
Can't really say anything bad about the game. Pretty challenging, even in the recruit mode.
Part of the enjoyable aspect is that you're also a gunner in one mission on a gunship and are using infra-red to classify your targets.
Work your way to the end and you have a bonus mission with the Mile High Club.

I like it a lot. I liked 1 and 2, hated 3 but 4 is really cool. The graphics look good, the story line is interesting, the AI can be really difficult at times (IMO) but eventually I get through the levels. I haven't finished it yet but I'm in ACT III and so far the missions have been interesting and sometimes quite difficult.
The weapons are realistic (of course) and there are a lot of them but unlike the other CODs, in most cases the weapon you start with is better than anything the enemy will drop.
The only thing that I really hate about all COD games is the fact that furniture doesn't move. I can't recall how many times I have been killed by a grenade because I got stuck between a chair and a wall. In a dark room even the smallest item will block your movement and may get you killed by something ridiculous.

In terms of gameplay, call of duty 4 has superior graphics and is very smooth play, it also gives a very realistic feel to it because the weapons are advanced and modern. It has a very fast pace also, with superior online play. However, personally, I liked the storyline in call of duty 2 better. In call of duty 2 you were able to develop a personal familiarity with each of your three players and squad mates. The missions seemed a bit more organized and consecutive than in cod 4 where you are jostled from the Soviet Union area suddenly to Iraq, and then back. I had call of duty 2 on the PC, and it gave me many hours of intense fun. However, now I play call of duty 4 because the graphics kick ***, and it's such a great game to play online. Why not get both? Call of duty 2 is a classic, and call of duty 4 is a fresh, action-filled multiplayer game. Both are equally good.

The game is really cool. I have it for ps3 and its a game on a whole new level. If you've played counter strike (multiplayer), call of duty blow CS out of the water. It seems you don't have it yet. You should definately get it, its worth it. Something That I probably don't like about the game is that its too short. (single player) the story line is great an all but it only takes about 6 hours to pass. Other than that the game is awesome.
