A correctional billing company has charged me an excessive amount for phone calls from my son who is incarcerated. I need to know how and what kind of attorneys handle these types of cases. Also I need to know if I can find an attorney for no cost if no recovery. I have read about so many people being overcharged by this company and no one seems to know who to contact about this. I cannot afford to pay this bill especially after the company did not disclose what the charges for the calls would be and my son was in a police station lockup when the calls were made and not in a correctional center. I think this is a ripoff and something needs to be done.

I did not have a contract with the correctional billing company and they did not disclose the rates for the calls. My son made 12 calls and only 8 were not terminated. I was charged almost 600 dollars for this.

were you charged a high rate, or for minutes you didn't use? if high rate, unless prohibited by law in your state, you are out of luck. if fraudulent (charging for time you weren't on the phone), then you'll need to contact them.

this doesn't sound like something you would hire a lawyer for, or a case that a lawyer would take. it certainly doesn't sound like a case a lawyer will take on contingency. their isn't a specific "phone law" lawyer - you need to contact a plaintiff's attorney, since this is sort of a contract situation more than anything else.

another option you may have is to contact a state agency that may regulate these rates and file a complaint.
