I like this house but not the water source. I'd like to convert it to town water from private water and am wondering if I can afford the change. If you can also let me know whom I should talk to, it'll be very helpful. Thanks!

Call your water/sewer department at your town hall. They should have an idea of the betterments that would be charged. They may charge you right away. Some connections can cost upwards of $20K but are allowed to be paid through a betterment and not up front.

You simply call the city to see about a meter..now here I have well water..but we have a meter that was installed at the curb when they did the whole area.. You are responsible for the line from the meter on your side to the house..It is simple, get your local codes of how deep to bury the lines..run the recommended pvc from the meter to your present lines.. What i did was run mine only to the cold water side of the kitchen and bathroom sinks, the areas where i drink/cook/or use the water in my mouth for brushing teeth etc..and dint even go through the hot water heater...All the other water I kept hooked up to the well for bathing, watering the yard, comodes etc...Water that I wasnt drinking...I save alot on water and sewage bills due to this...
