A lot of our food and water comes from the ocean. Without the ocean, we'd have some serious issues and extinction to contend with.

If we don't take care of the ocean (not destroy it with waste) then the water will become uninhabitable and life in the ocean will be altered or destroyed.

Everyone assumes that the earth's oxygen is produced by rain forests when actually the oceans provide most of it. Fish is still one of our biggest food sources but if fish continue accumulating mercury levels how good will that be for us? Beluga whales alone have adapted to many toxins that when they die they decompose as toxic waste.I'm sure I can list more reasons but what can be more important than those two I just mentioned?

we eat fish and fish come from the ocean, we swim and the ocean is like a giant swimming pool, also rain has to come from somewhere, if we didnt take care of it, such as, if we put loads of chemicals and oil in it constantly it would kill anything living in it, it would destroy the water and when it turns into rain and comes back down it would very much damage wildlife, buildings and anything else it lands on. acid rain is bad enough already, we dont need to make it worse.

one can explain that in many ways. but if you think about it on a basic level it seems to be talking about collective benefit. humans can not exist on earth without many things going in our favor: food sources, climate, etc... the ocean has many benefits and influences on the world. it can provide food. it can influence climate. so i would imagine taking care of the ocean is to our benefit, as well as the oceans.

and don't forget, the ocean supplies 90% of the worlds oxygen ( the forests of the world supply the rest)
