Oh boy, thats a question and a half mate :)

If the multiverse theory is right, then "SPACE" is constantly growing, evolving. More and more universes are being created through time, so it could be that "our" universe is not the first or last... It was simply created at some point in time.

If the multiverse theory is wrong, then the big-bang theory (which loads of people have explained in many ways, from a collection of energy, gases, particles, to string theorists who believe that it occured when two membranes collided), dictates that first there was a void, and then the universe was created...

Here is something else to think about:
If there are N number of universes in space (constantly being created), then how do you know there is only 1 "you"? there may be X number of "you" in multiple universes, cause chances are that the same formula that was used to create "you" could have occured elsewhere.

Sweet eh?

We'll probably never know for sure. According to the big bang theory the universe as we know it was compressed into a tiny area and began expanding billions and billions of years ago. But where did that ball of galactic material come from?

I guess there must have been a time when the universe didn't exist, because no matter how far back in time you go, there will always be a moment immediately before the one you're in. Since time is infinite, and infinity can never be reached, it seems that there must be a starting point for the universe somewhere along the line. But really, who knows?

The very first verse in the bible says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

For me, I believe what is written in the bible so I believe that this universe we live on has not always been here and that there is one creator who created all things.

I look around and I don't see a universe that was created accidentally by a "big bang" but a world that was created with thought & imaginativeness.

No the universe has not always been here. I don't know what was here before, but... If the universe did not exist at one time, then here wouldn't exist either. I guess nothing!

you hit one of the big questions. physics, religion and philosophy did not solve that yet.

what was there before the big bang?

physics say that energy can't come from nothing, and energy cannot disappear into nothing...
still, no one knows how the universe looked before it took on the form we know today.

religion says that God ws there before everything else, and he created everything - but the philosophers and physics now ask "Where came God from? How did He come into existence?"

by the way, philosophy has speculated on everything being only the illusionary, humane influenced, corrupt perception of a perfect idea.

you see, that question is closely related to the question "What is reality?"

I don't know the answer, and I'm waiting for somebody to find out...

I believe so. Consider time is the fourth dimension. As human beings we perceive this dimension in a forward flowing linear experience. This does not mean that this is the only way time can be experienced. So if this forth dimension and all time exists even outside of our individual experience, then technically time has no beginning or end and therefore the universe will have always existed.

I don't think there's any answer based on fact for this question. But I believe the universe has always been here. We just didn't know about it until we discovered it. That makes the most sense to me, doesn't it?

Well their can be two reasons...big bang theory, or a matter of faith in which the universe was created in 7 days by the HolyOne.

The universe what you are talking started with bigbang. So, something was existing out of bigbang. The universe is expanding in something. May be, the universe was black hole. So Many- many universe are existing in one UNIVERSE. Are you physics student?

No. God has always been here from the begining of time. Then he CREATED the world in 7 days.
