The movie was written with that being the twist at the end. Close to it, I began to suspect that there was something wrong with him. The best twist out of all his movies if you ask me.
When you watch it the second time knowing that he's dead, you'll see the scene with his wife at the restaurant and you can tell that it was written so that the wife feels a disconnect, not because he's late, but because she's alone and he's dead. Like he reaches for the bill and she pulls at away before he touches it.
The movie had really good writing.

I saw a few things that seemed funny but just about the last 30 minutes it dawned on me. It still blew me away. Great movie!!!

It was the only thing that made sense. A kid that sees dead people as the protagonist.....then the antagonist is probably dead.

I was arguing with my girlfriend the whole way through-I said he was dead from the start and she said NO he's not- It was pretty obvious who remembered to put on their smarty pants that day!
