I have three strawberry jars full of them. Will they survive the winter (Mild - usually) if I just put them in a sheltered corner and cover them with leaves? Or if I take them in a garage, etc. will they die from no sunlight? They are so pretty I hate to lose them, but my house is already full of plants for the winter.

Hens and chicks are fairly tough. I have them in my flower bed (zone 5) and they thrive without any special treatment. I also made planters from worn out hiking boots which I simply kept close to the house and the plants came back beautifully in the spring. Of course, it will depend on the variety you have planted.

I live in zone 5 in Canada, and mine grow in one of my gardens. I don't cover them in the winter, and they are fine the next year. As yours are in pots, the roots are not insulated, so if you get frost or freezing, it may kill them. Call your local nursery, and see what they recommend. Good luck.

Ask a friend to take them in.

Take cuttings, super easy to root in water or on soil.

Frost will kill them.

hens & chicks should winter over fine, as they are perennials, but your pots may not withstand a freeze.

I had those in my yard and didn't do anything and they came back every year.

I live in Michigan too.
