Hawaii. mount Kilauea, the most active volcano in the world,it is also one of the the largest. it releases large quantities of lava which in turn helps build the island. It is a shield volcano, the gentle type which are not destructive like stratovolcanoes, however they can be a threat as the lava it produces is very alkaline (runny) and easily slopes down the volcano as lava flows which can cause damage to property.these volcanoes are mostly the most short lived of all the volcanoes because it lies on a hot spot.soon mount Kilauea will become extinct as it moves away from the hot spot by the pacific plate slowly is moving away from the source. a new volcano is growing under the sea at this very moment and is due to reach the surface in a million years.

It is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548. Its name means Mountain of Fire. I was just at Hawaii's Mauna Loa volcano, and it was seeping lava out of one of its vents just a short distance from the main caldera.
