I plan to stay in the Budget Inn Patricia Hotel towards the end of December for my Christmas break in Vancouver the address of this Hotel Inn is "403 East Hastings St., Vancouver BC, V6A "
Is anyone here familiar with this location or perhaps you have stayed there or lived near by, Can you advise me if this part of East Hastings is one of the more slum parts of town. I have heard that East Hastings is an area to be avoided as there is a lot of drugs and prostitution. But i understand that some parts of East Hastings are worse than others, Can someone tell me what this part of town is like before i book my stay, should i avoid it at all costs or is this part of East Hastings OK, I will be traveling back to this Hotel at night after day trips out so i need a heads up on this, Many thanks.

if you can stay at another hotel, please do. i used to live in vancouver up until march of this year. my husband and i used to go to that area a lot coz it's right next door to chinatown. cheap food, cheap goodies.

but it's really a scary place. i don't know where that tourist really went... but it really is the sketchy part of town. it's probably the worst area of the entire lower vancouver mainland. the area around the corner of east hastings and main streets is where the druggies and prostitutes mill around. i even saw one woman who was pretty beat up. her face was battered and she has dried blood all over it and her clothes.

my husband and i would always lock the doors of our car whenever west hastings becomes east hastings. we don't lock our car when we drive... vancouver is really safe so that says a lot.

please don't think vancouver is not a nice place. it is a really really great place. it's my most favorite place... not even hawaii can come close in my list (in my list, lemme stress that out). that area is the only blemish of the entire vancouver area though.

the hotel is too far into the east hastings area... i wouldn't recommend it. if it was a couple of blocks or so from west hastings, it should be fine. but the more removed you are from west hastings... the more unsafe it is.

Interesting. I stay in hotels a lot in Vancouver and was booking about the same time of year when the World Junior Hockey Tournament was in town a couple years back. I considered the same hotel, as options were fewer than normal, and slightly more expensive than normal. In the end I decided not to stay at the Particia. I also knew I'd becoming home late after hockey games and after a few drinks. Maybe even some celebrating a win after the game before going back to the hotel. (And that did happen:)

So, to each their own, it was too to the slums close for me.

It's right on the fringe - not a very savory part of town. If you are going to be going back to the hotel at night, you might want to reconsider because this area is pretty bad during the daylight hours. It gets worse at night.
Vancouver is a beautiful city, and there is much to see and do, many safe areas to say in. But every city has its unsavory part of town and Vancouver, unfortunately, is also plagued by the problems of homelessness and drugs. The problem is exacerbated in the winter months because homeless people from other parts of Canada head for Vancouver because of the milder climate and that's the area they head for.
Check the YMCA or YWCA, or youth hostels, or hotels in other parts of town.

I recently visited Vancouver and loved it. It is, for the most part, a beautiful city. In addition, the residents of Vancouver pride themselves on the friendliness of the city, as well as it's clean appearance.

To directly answer your question, I went to what is considered the "bad part of town" during my visit. While I was not there in the middle of the night, I found nothing frightening or offensive about the area.

I would book the hotel and enjoy your stay. Go to the suspension bridge. Go to Vancouver Island and visit Bouchart Gardens. I found that getting the all-day bus pass for $2.00 is well worth it. Have fun.

I looked at the reviews for this hotel, and while they are mixed I think that whether this is the hotel for you depends on the individual. When I visited Vancouver several years ago I witnessed a fight. It was between someone who was begging and another individual who apparently lived and worked in Vancouver. The person with the job was the aggressor, and the man who appeared to be homeless just wanted to be left alone. I guess my point is you can just never tell.

hey,

i live in vancouver and that location is pretty close to the "downtown eastside" which is the slum area, lots of homeless people, drugs, violence...
its not the worst part of of the eastsidem but i wont expect it to be very welcoming..just watch out
i wouldnt recommend going out at night though..just stay in groups and dont make yourself a target

goood luck :)

The Patricia Inn is not the kind of hotel that you would want your holiday to be in. The area is very questionable, I would recommend you look elsewhere.

Yeah, quite plenty the same place that maximum adult males might take one greater 3 inches. yet despite the fact that, i'm quite short. i might get greater action if I further 3 inches to my standard top. except I take the three inches downstairs, yet then walk around devoid of pants or underclothes. of course if I do this, i'm going to possibly finally end up in detention center, and that i particularly do no longer choose for that type of action. So, i'm going to easily be 3 inches taller, please.
