First, my computer setup: I have 2 computers. Internet goes to my Mac through dialup. i have a cross-over cable between the mac and my PC. I went into System Preferences/Sharing and enabled sharing my Built-in Modem Connection through Ethernet but my PC can't connect. How do I go about this?

This will involve turning your Mac into a DHCP server. See this article for the procedure.

Regarding the other answer: Nothing about DHCP server setup will instigate Network Address Translation, also known as Internet Sharing. You just enable it in the Sharing Pane of System Preferences on the Mac. It sounds like you have already done this. Be sure you made the right choice for "to computers using..." between Airport and ethernet if you have Airport on the Mac.

If you turned on the Firewall service (highly recommended for security), you must also put a check for Personal File Sharing in the tab for Firewall or you will be locking out any connections to your Mac. Then you only have to get the Windows box to connect to the Mac box. With the Mac Firewall turned on, you will also need to logon from the Windows box as a user of the Mac (your normal user shortname and password).

Now that you have spent the required one minute setting up the Mac to share the Internet (put a check in the box for Internet Sharing, Personal File Sharing and "to computers using ethernet") you can spend considerably more time setting up the Windows box to "connect to a share" and that is provided by the Windows XP Help files or by contacting Microsoft. : ) If you can't get it done (I can but this isn't the Windows question area and I don't want to spend a lot of time on it here), go to the Windows question area of this forum and ask your question. Almost always, that is where you will spend a lot of time checking and rechecking the multitude of network settings.
