My husband was away on business last night and caught a stomach bug. He threw up last night and is feeling so bad he is coming home today. He said a guy he had a meeting with was telling him how his whole family was sick over the weekend, but he was feeling fine now. Apparently he was still contagious. Here is my problem. We have an 8 month old. What do I do to keep him from getting sick? Any tips?

I believe most stomach viruses are contracted by hand to mouth , whenever my husband picks up these nasty viruses at work we never get them , and here is why . first make sure that baby does not kiss dad on the mouth , also whenever hubby vomits you need to go to bathroom immediately and sanitize entire toilet and also lysol on toilet handle and seat and under seat and also the sink handle door knobs all that your hubby may touch and infect . use plenty of hand sanitizer on you and baby , follow with baby oil or lotion esoecially on baby or skin will get irritated . do not allow baby to drink after dad, but as long as baby does not touch dads saliva or vomit or runs , baby and you will not catch this virus . hand to mouth usually transmitted by touching vomit or runs and then ingesting virus , most allways stomache bugs are never airborne , just use plenty of sanitizer and lysol religiously. you should be fine

Sounds like stomach flue, your husband should have blood test to find out what it is, in the mean time keep him away from the baby, you can get it from your husband and pass it on to the baby.

Good news is that baby is only 8 months old so he has still most of your immunities, but still call the baby's doctors office and request advise. Doctor may give a prescription of the child to be used if needed, on first onset that is detected.

In the mean time be very care full wash hand before handling baby, and keep distance between you and the husband per doctors instructions.

As a rule the virus are dormant for days before the on set and the person can be contagious days after the episode.

So chances are that you and baby were exposed, before your husband took this trip.

If you breastfeed he'll probably be fine. My daughter has been exposed to stomach bugs a couple of time and she's never got any (although he could catch the bug anyway, this is not a 100% effective "vaccine").

If your baby is bottle fed take there are more chances of him getting sick, he can get it from your husband or from you if you're near your husband. Keep all the recommended hygiene measures and if he finally gets sick, make sure you keep him hydrated.

Of course, contact the pediatrician for the best advice!

Good luck :)

just get a can of the lysol
kills 99.9 % or the germs

and pray the door knobs and things

make him take a shower BEFORE touching the baby and contaminating the house

wash all his stuff, and

then just don't let him breathe all over the little guy,

he has to cuddle and kiss him
but not the wet and wild sloppy joe kinds

trust me baby will be fine, especially if your breast feeding

my opinion is just let hubby come home and go to bed, and you get on with what your doing and if baby gets sick then so be it, its just a bug that passes quickly. These things are going to happen so get used to it, the flip side is it will make your babys immune system stronger.

Keep them away from each other and when you switch rooms you need to change so as not to carry the bug back and forth.

Its probably a virus, which means if your baby is going to get sick he already is infected. Viruses tend to spread before they show symptoms.

Keep them apart, keep baby out of the bathroom, dont swap spit with baby, and keep baby hydrated. If you nurse, dont worry too much, you'll give him antibodies if he needs them.

Try to keep your husband away for a while, sure he will miss her/him but it's not worth her/him getting sick over.
