BEIJING (AP) -- Growth in China's economy slowed slightly in the third quarter in a sign that tightening measures were taking effect, the government said Thursday. Economists said the peak of the latest boom may have passed.
The 11.5 percent expansion in economic output for the July-September period kept China on track to surpass Germany as the world's third-largest economy by early 2008.

China's trade surplus for the first 10 months jumped a massive 59 percent to $212.4 billion, according to figures released by the General Administration of Customs. The annual surplus already has surpassed the full-year record of $177.5 billion set in 2006.
