Before worrying about the breed and the name for this puppy, ask yourself if you have the right conditions to keep it in.

Will you be able to walk it during the day?

Are you going to be out at work all day? This would be unkind to the puppy.

Keeping a dog means spending money on its keep, possible veterinary bills, vaccinations etc.,

Remember a puppy is for life not just for Christmas.

Before jumping into getting any type of dog you need to do a lot of research. Check out a dog breed book at the library and read it. They give a lot of info on each breed, it's needs, temperament, etc.

Personally, I'd adopt from the SPCA as there are so many homeless dogs out there. You can go and look and get to know the dog first.

The size would depend on what kind of house and yard you have. The breed would also depend on how active it is. Do you have a fenced in yard? Will it need to be walked a few times a day? Who will do it? Do you want a lap dog?

Jack Russels and Border Collies need a lot of exercise. Some breeds of dogs have congenital defects that show up early on such as eye problems, hip dysplasia, skin problems.

You should wait to name it to see its personality. The name will come to you when you see the dog and how it acts. One time it took me 3 weeks to "find" the dog's name.

Just remember, it's a big responsibilty owing a pet. They are not like shoes that you try on and throw away if they don't fit. They need to be worked with and loved a lot.

Don't mean to be preachy on the subject but I work with 4 animal shelters and you would not believe the things I've seen and the excuses I've heard for giving animals up. Good luck and have a Happy Christmas.

Wow,I am sorry that some people are so mean! I think you're lucky to be getting a puppy. What a great gift! I would suggest getting a Cocker Spaniel. We have a chocolate colored Cocker with tan and white markings. He is a great dog! He's full of energy, very loving, smart, and very eager to please. We often joke that he is a child trapped in a dog's body. Cocker Spaniels are a nice size to be a house dog. The nice thing about our dog is that he loves everyone in the family equally. Sometimes dogs bond with one family member more than others. Our little guy makes the rounds of the house, spending time with all of us. We named our dog Baxter. You almost have to see the puppy first, and then a name will come to you based on his personality or looks. Have fun making your decision!

There are lots of good dogs and puppies in shelters that need homes, after deciding what type (small, large, active, whatever) you're going to get, you might consider adopting one. A lot of pet stores get their dogs from puppy mills where the animals are abused for profit, and most shelters have to euthanize dogs every year because they don't have the funding to take care of all of them. If you adopted a puppy or dog from a shelter, you would be giving them a great Christmas present as well!

Worry about that when and if you indeed get a puppy. This is the season for giving, not the season for planning your own gifts. Focus your time on thinking about what you can do for others, including the less fortunate, and hope that others will do the same for you. Sorry, but that's the right answer; I'm not just going to say what you want to hear. Merry Christmas.

if you live in an apartment or even a regular house, a small dog is probably the best. they don't eat as much, they dont poo as much, and you can hold them and carry them around. they are also more little kid friendly if you have any in your house or if they visit.

there isn't really any spesific breed i reccomend, but probably get a girl. they are just less wild most of the time and are easier to handle.

i think you should name it jazzie because i just like that name. some other good names are maggie, molly, and muffin (they all start with m but oh well). and if you really wanted a boy then probably max, buddy, or teddy would be the best.

Good luck!

You should get a Labrador Retriever.
If you get a Chocolate one you could name it Coco, Cocoa, or Hershey.
If you get a Black one you could name it Midnight.
If you get a Golden one you could name it Buddy, Buster, Ginger, Sandy.
If you go to this website, you can get more information on Labrador Retrievers.

Zuul is the perfect name for a dog. Try googling and see what you can come up with.

That depends if you want a dog that doesn't need to walk everyday I'd say a bulldog, they're loyal loving and love to snooze too. but they don't like to be left alone for long.
