In Shakespeare’s time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. That’s where the phrase, “goodnight, sleep tight” came from

There are several theories going the rounds as to the origin. One is that bedclothes were tied tightly to stop bedbugs biting. That's pure speculation and there seems to be no evidence whatsoever to support it. Another theory, this time a little more plausible, dates from the days when mattresses were supported by ropes which needed to be pulled tight to give a well-sprung bed.
thats the best i could come up with

The phrase "sleep tight" comes from a time when a bed consisted of a straw mattress supported by interwoven ropes stretched taut across a wooden frame. If one or more of these ropes became loose, it would cause uneven support, leading to poor sleep.

Early beds had ropes zig zaged across the frame . A mattress of straw wool etc was placed over the ropes .
After a while the ropes stretched and had to be pulled tighter in order for the bed not to sag in the middle . The bed was naturally more comfortable when "tight"

In olden times the peasants did not have a nice sping mattress like you have today.
They had palliasses which were basically a sack filled with straw and to stop them falling off of the bed they were tied on.
So you shook up your palliasse each night and tied it on so as to "sleep tight". Goodnight.

In older time the corners of the matresses were tied to the bedposts.
So, in order to get a better nights sleep, the matress would be tied tight to make it firmer.
Goodnight, sleep tight
Found that out, believe it or not, yesterday on a box of Ovaltine!

Sleep well. The full saying is "Good night, sleep tight, hope the bugs don't bite". It's just a fun alliteration.

Used to be 'good night, sleep tight, dont let the bed bugs bite.'
Bed bugs...are a real thing...and they do bite. Check back last year, many NY city Hotels were dealing with the bed bug issue.
