Booman, actually, the study shows that America is NOT behind other nations. Read and learn, like the liberals!

I live in a red state and I know they are mindless sheep here. It is so frustrating. I sold cell phones and one guy picked up a flip phone and ask me "how do you open it" No kidding. They throw their McDonald's sacks out the window, We have seen Walmart sacks hanging from trees, My husband saw a guy dumping his oil down the drainage ditch. I ask a lady about all the litter and her answer was" it will blow away". So you think they are behind in math and science try just behind. They vote Republican because they really believe that the Dem's will take away their guns. That and they don't like them there ******. My husband tells them at work keep voting Republican and you wont be able to afford your guns. and as far as your gay issue whats more important ,that, or another
youngster coming home in a body bag

Ruth
I would love to leave thank you ,but my husbands job is here. and I am telling you the truth. Of course you haven't got a solution to the problem. By telling me I could just leave, tells me you know I speak the truth.

They don,t do this to piss me off, they don't know any better kinda like you I guess, I did not say it pissed me off anyway, I said it was frustrating and it is.

You need to read and comprehend. Another fine public school victim.

The end of the report says that the US falls behind many Asian nations in Science and Math. Those are our competitors my friend, and our kids are losing the battle. Article states we compare "generally as well as" some European countries. Those economies are stagnant and unemployment and government dole is high, we do NOT want to emulate that if we wish to be successful.

Finally, to make such an unverified statement about liberal states being smarter is just bull. Detroit is democratic, predominately democratic, and if you think that they are out performing anybody, you are sadly mistaken.

The border cities/counties of Texas are democratic. That area also has some of the most Hispanic districts in Texas.

The republican vs. democrat intelligence level argument is shaky at best.

Continuing to promote partisan politics is allowing our government to kill off our middle class. They are ineffective for creating anything positive for the middle class of the country, nearly every law they pass is for the benefit of some big business or non-working fellow citizen, and then they screw over our seniors and veterans to boot. But they treat themselves and the government employee unions; very, very well. Do you have a nearly no contribution pension? Paid for life healthcare for you and your spouse? Guaranteed raises? No? Neither do I.

BOTH parties keep us divided over BS, while they under educate our children and cut backdoor deals with our countries biggest corporations to get another hand in our paychecks.

Things are getting ugly, and we need to wake up to the FACT that those we continue to put in office are stealing our children's future and our way of life.

Michigan is a Democrat state and is far behind the national averages.
Soon to go into a partial shut down again, as businesses, and residents have left due to the ever increasing taxes.
Who loses? All of us and our kids. Not due to the money either. It is a well known fact that kids do better with mentoring. We need vouchers so kids can get the best education.
Thankfully, I live in a conservative area of the state where the grades are better, and the college accepts no federal or state funding and ranks very high academically!

I think those stats are skewed considering population and income. I guarantee you if you went city by city the stats would be much different. Sure Tennessee would be weak compared to New York, but if you compared Oak Ridge, TN to the rest of the country you would be in for a shock. I think its based more on economics than political views. You brought up New England as if all of New England was strong in school. But pick any inner city area of New Jersey and compare it to an upscale area in North Carolina. I guarantee you they wouldn't be ahead. Generally the trend for education follows good for rich and poor for bad. It's all about which states have more economically well off areas compared to their poorer areas.

Besides when was the last time Republican's or Democrats had a choice for President in which the candidate was well versed in math or science? We get to choose out of a pool of actors, football players, and the occasional lawyer.

I doubt it has any relation to political agenda, but simply is the state of mind of the people in control of the educational system. this is a reflection of a few people's thinking, in key places and not of a widespread belief.
I am quite liberal and would love to take credit, but it is just not logical and I really do not like partisan politics as another way to divide and conquer this country.

Because in Republican states 2 times 2 doesn't always equal 36 (sarcasm).

Stereotyping states based on their political affiliation is no better than how undereducated Republicans blindly follow the doctrines of Republican leaders. Heck, even how undereducated Democrats follow the doctrines of Democratic leaders. There are geniuses in Red states too, and there are morons in blue states as well.

Political affiliation (as I've often found) is the marker of dimished intellect (or a "please think for me" mentality, and this is facism, not democracy).

Is the poll taken legitimately? Look at the tax base of those two states. You take two liberal states and claim that all liberal states are better than all conservative states. That's moronic to say the least. I live in a blue state, Illinois, and there as dumb as a box of rocks here. If liberals are so smart, why are they bitchin about NCLB? this simply makes sure that teachers are doing their jobs.

It would appear, in my experience anyway, that anyone found in these states with any form of education is instantly mistrusted. This preferment of the " Ahm jus' plain spokin' " attitude (exemplified by the current president) leading to the championing of stupidity (again, exemplified by the current president) is a worrying situation that will polarise the US even further in years to come.

Instead of trying to be devisive, a better question would be, why is the entire US woefully behind the rest of the world in math and science. The answer lies in the government run schools and their methodology. Why not address that instead of trying to make silly point, that makes you feel better about your political beliefs?
