I have a old pc which i got in 04-05. Its quite good back then but now its beginning to slow down. I want to change the graphics card. Can I just buy any graphics card and slot it in my motherboard, or are there some graphics cards that are only compatible in specific type of mother boards?

Odds are you have an AGP slot, but you will want to make sure.
Most power supplies will support an AGP card without any issues.
If you don't have an AGP slot for a video card, then you will need to buy a PCI card....not a PCIE (PCI-Express).
So odds are it will be an AGP card.
If not, then probably a standard PCI card.

open up your pc and look at the types of expansion slots. for the time your computer came out you are probably going to have agp slots if you are lucky, but most likely pci slots. now, there are a few half decent cards out there that are relatively inexpensive that are agp, but it is kinda hard at the moment to find a good pci card.

I had a similar situation while i offered an 8600gts approximately 2 years in the past, i've got in simple terms upgraded to a similar card by making use of the way, performs like a gem, incredibly. you incredibly % a sparkling PSU or that is going to soften your desktops innards. If it recommends a 4 hundred watt i might say get a pair of 450-500. you in undemanding terms unscrew your old PSU out of the gadget, if its something like maximum desktops, pull it out and then placed the hot one in a similar slot remembering to screw it in a similar places, they're each and every of a similar length besides. Use the handbook that the PSU could grant to communicate with cable clippings and so on. Its no longer as no longer hassle-free as you think of, i presumed it would take me perpetually to do it, yet its a 10 minute job max. as long as you have you computer became off on the skill and you do no longer snap something on your tower you're able to be effective.

There are slots on the bottom of the card, and you have to make sure they match up with what you have. These slots tell you the voltage of the card.
