Answers:
-A- because it is the brightest natural object in sky after sunset (apart from the moon)
-B- because it appears before any other star is visible in the evening
-C- It is never visible at midnight

Note: Right now Venus is the "Morning Star" because it is relative west of the sun. You can see it in the east before sunrise.

Once upon a time, the word 'evening' meant only the time of day between when the sky began to turn red before sunset and sunset, after which it was called "eve" before dusk, which is when it got no darker and became "night."

So, during that time, "Evening", the brightest extraterrestrial object next to the Sun and the Moon, was another bright point of light, that was once believed to be a star.

The planets Mercury and Jupiter can often be seen during the exact same time of day that Venus can be seen, but, only by people with much better eyesight than most people have without corrective eyeware, so, the majority of people went around beliving that anybody saying there was more than one evening star was telling something akin to a tall tale, and went on beliving that there was only one star that could be seen in that time of waning daylight.

For that same reason, venus was aslo called "the evening and morning star".

And it is also called the morning star.

Because Venus is an 'inner' planet (closer to the Sun than we are), it never moves too far away from the Sun.

You will see it in the evening (or in the morning) but never at midnight: It cannot find itself in the direction opposite to the Sun.

For a while (we're going back to before the Babylonians), it was thought that they were two were different stars.

Venus is called the Evening Star. It is called this because it looks so bright to us from Earth.

Because, when it is in the part of its orbit that makes it visible in the sky after sunset, it is the brightest object in the sky after the Sun and Moon, making it the first 'star' to be visible in the evening and the most prominent star once the others are out.

When it is on the other side of its orbit it is visible in the morning sky, as the brightest 'star' and the final star to disappear from view as the sun comes up. Then it is known as the morning star.

In the early 17th century it was used by travelers to navigate. Based on the location in the heavens and the season best suited to traveling in the most comfort, this is the "star" most often recognized and seen in the evening.

It's easier to see it in the evening rather than during daylight hours.

(you do know it's not really a star, right?)
