I've taught in both, and that wasn't the case in any place where I have worked.

You can apply to a Canadian university with no trouble. As long as you are willing to pay the full price with no Canadian financial you can go there. As for opening up a bakery, most Canadians get there baked goods at a place they call a "Supermarket". Individual bakeries do not do that well unless they can find a place in a newly gentrified area. In the already high income areas, there are more than enough bakeries anyway. Really, that is a field where Canadians already have an ample supply. Now if you were to become a Petroleum Engineer, you would have a sure shot at a great career. As for Canadian culture, look at Seattle and LA. 20% of the people in Hollywood are Canadian and 20% of all the news broadcasters in the USA are Canadian. The culture os Seattle and Canada are essentially the same.

Well, if I'm going by the rankings tables: Financial Times, Times Education Supplement, US News, several out of India, one I use from China, etc... Again and again, US universities outrank those of Canada. There are, of course, individual Canadian universities that rank up there with the best in the US, and the best in the world (U Toronto and McGill, most usually. U British Columbia also tends to do well.) But across the board, it's the universities in the US that do the best. So are they harder? I have no idea. But they have a better reputation, which certainly means a lot.
And in business, without question, it's the US. No doubt at all in my mind.
But of course, there are easy or bad or low ranked business programs at specific US universities, and likewise in Canada. And there are fine programs in Canada, and likewise in the US. But we're talking generalities, here.
