hey guys, i just wanted to share my problem with you and perhaps receive some advice. i am really not accustomed to getting F letter grades or anything... The problem is that I took a programming/C++ course during an intersession at my CC. I was doing very well until about the 4th week when I couldn't do any of the assigned programming tests on the computer. The class was like 5 units and after failing it, my gpa went down from 3.5 to roughly 2.98. My chances for transferring to some decent uni are slim now, so do you guys think I should just quit and work at Mcdonald's? I'm a bit scared to retake the class...

An intersession goes by very quickly, and there is little time to make up for problems. Retake the class, during the regular session, and the minute you start having problems with it at all, go to the professor or your tutoring center for help. A's are nice, but your perseverence and willingness to work hard to overcome obstacles means a lot, especially on the job market.

I would say your life is doomed. You will probably become a street person and marry some ugly girl. Hey, just kidding. Life doesn't end because of one bad event so stop thinking about quitting school and going to work at McDonalds. This might be telling you you shouldn't be a computer science major but your academic career is not over. You can make this a positive thing if it gives you some insight into your strengths and weaknesses and what career you might ultimately pursue. So, find out repeat grading policies and how colleges you are interested in are going to treat repeat grades. Even though your community college may not count the lowest grade the university you are interested in may. If the university does then you are just as well off to take another course and make a good grade. Good luck.

Well the only thing I can say is that a lot of community colleges offer a "drop date" that will let you drop the class if you are failing without it affecting the GPA. (Yours may have one but you just didn't find out in time) But if you take it again and don't do so well, you can drop the class without worry of it affecting your GPA.
I would also recommend checking into tutoring. Most colleges offer some kind of tutoring whether it is free or not. But usually there are college students who will tutor you for not a whole lot, if anything at all.
Good luck! I hope you do well!

Retake the class, preferably with the same teacher so you know exactly what to expect. Bone up on the subject before you take it, and if you take anything else that semester, take blow-off classes. Easy A's will not only help you GPA, they'll give you more time to study the subject that's giving you difficulty. I'd also recommend leaning away from other programming classes, as they do not appear to be your strong suit.

No you should retake the class!!! Then you can use the higher grade from it. Check with your uni about that. Ask for a tutor if you have trouble with this class so you can bring that grade up.

Look you cant do any worse than an F so give it a try!

The CC that I went to had a form for one time use. It got rid of the bad grades, and let you start over. I forget what it is called, talk to the guidance dept.

Why didn't you withdraw! A W is usually not as bad looking as an F. Why didn't you ask questions to go to the computer center for help from those majoring in it or ask questions here at R&S.

Stop making excuses or go work at McDonald's. I go to a cc and isn't that hard but it isn't that easy, do what you have to do to achieve your goals or all you'll have is an excuse.
