The nice thing about Holland is that they have a huge variety of restaurants - all different types imaginable. It's hard to give an answer to your question without knowing what type of food you're looking for. You can eat very cheaply, or you can eat really fancy, or anything in between. I don't think I ever spent more than $20 on a meal (US dollars) except once when I went for super fancy. Most prices are very reasonable.

I answered your question about bike rental in your other question.

If you want you can eat enough, filling if not healthy, for €5, ($7.5) One way to do that is to go to a 'snackbar' one of the chain names is 'Febo' but there are many.
They sell you 'french fries' and deep fried meat products.

One step up are the pizza slice and shoarma (kebab) places. Expect about €10 ($15) for a belly filling meal, still not the most healthy option.

Up from that are many ethnic eateries. Zeedijk is a good place to find them, and around Leidse plein.
Expect to pay anything between €10 ($14.50) to €50 ($73) each for dinner, more if you take a few drinks as well.

But the top end can also be found, there are several places in Amsterdam where you can get dinner for more than € 100 each, including one glass of wine.

All places selling food have to have the prices announced on the outside of the building, and it is normal to read the menu of a few places before deciding where to eat.

A good place, loved by most Dutch, is the Indonesian/Chinese restaurant. Rijst tafel (Rice table) either Indonesian or Chinese.

All prices are including service and tax, but you are free to give a little extra if the service was very good. (5% to 10%.)

Above information is valid for the whole of the Netherlands, not just Amsterdam.
