I am anti war, anti abortion, anti death penalty, anti arms trade, anti weapons of mass destruction (including US weapons). I am puzzled by anti war people who don't think twice about late term abortion or anti abortion people who support capital punishment To me all these acts are violent and degrade life. Isn't it time for a consistent respect for human rights and life?

I have weapons, does that make me violent? Aggression and abortion are not the same thing, sorry.

As far as capital punishment is concerned, maybe you'd think differently if it was your own family who had been brutalized by a violent offender. Then again, maybe not.

The beauty of all of this is that people can think differently, disagree, and yet the sun still rises.

I'm Pro-abortion to a point - if the baby is severly disabled then the nicest thing to do is put it out of its' misery. And if someone is in a situation where, for whatever reason, they cannot have the baby they are carrying, they should be allowed to abort (many women have many valid reasons for doing so - myself being one of them).

However, late term abortion worries me and affects me in such a way that i cannot validate it unless it is for the child's best interests.

Capital punishment should be brought back, but only in cases where there is absolute truth and several witnesses to rule out an error being made. I think it is only really valid when a life has been taken or someone's life has been destroyed mentally, physically, or emotionally because of that person -- eg paedophilia, rape, murder.

I am a Pacifist when it comes to issues regarding war. Soldiers are basically given the right to murder innocent people for a goal that in many wars, means more damage and devastation is done in the process of war and more lives lost, than would have been had the war not taken place and peaceful means had been explored more fully.

Peaceful talks dont seem to happen as much as they should as perhaps more talks and more common sense should have been used before entering into Iraq. I know of the torture that went on there but just because America got themselves involved in it all, did that really mean they had to pull us down to their level?! (Britain) Our soldiers are now out there fighting for something they can't achieve and people are dying all the time. For what? to cause more damage and devastation to a country that was already devastated enough.

It is a losing battle that has gone on for long enough now and should be stopped.

The arms trade are there to protect initially, not threaten. We have arms in case we get invaded and have no other means of defending ourselves. This is different to the war in Iraq as we went in with an intent to inihilate the leaders of the country, and not directly protecting the civilians at risk (which is what should have happened!)

You have a very closed viewpoint and I'm not sure how others would respond to it, and i think that to respect human rights and life together, is to give people the free will they are capable of using, to decipher what they think is right or wrong.

Our basic human right should be that if we want to go and fight, we can. If we want to abort, we can. If we want to kill, we can. We just have ourselves to answer to at the end of the day. Only we know whether we are doing the right thing or the wrong thing, and sometimes, no matter how many times someone tells you, you are wrong, you still think you're right. It's just your opinion, others will think differently and there will never be a time when everyone will think the same.

Believe what you believe, because there's not much else you can do about it! Just don't be one of these anti-whatever protesters who just sl*gs people off for their viewpoint. Instead, respect their human rights and their right to think what they want to think cos the world of George Orwell hasn't come into being just yet!

Having a consistent respect for life and a distaste for actions that cause death are certainly admirable attitudes. But in the case of war and defensive weapons, BOTH SIDES have to share those feelings.

Even though you would never harm another person, do you lock your doors at night? I bet you do. Why? Because you know there are people out there who don't share those same feelings and you feel the need to protect yourself. War and WMDs are just a larger scale reaction to the same threats.

In the case of abortion, I totally share your feelings... especially on late term abortions. We are talking the death of INNOCENTS. I wouldn't mind if the death penalty was done away with, as long as there was absolutely no possibility of them ever being on street again. Our judicial system makes that concern quite valid. On the other hand, vicious murderers have removed themselves by their acts from the considerations of decent society. They are certainly NOT innocent. So their deaths do not overly concern me either.

It would be nice if everything was so black and white.
I would say I'm typically anti-war, but in the terms of technology war does have it's upside. Many of the items we use today are because of developments because of war (you are sitting at a computer afterall). There is nothing wrong with having military capability for defense reasons. It's larger scale self-defense. You wouldn't send to jail the woman who was being brutally attacked and raped because she managed to get her hands on her gun in her purse to save her life? The same should be true for countries.

I am also anti-death penalty because of the possibility that someone who couldn't afford a decent lawyer and was more or less framed for closure to a case could wind up on death row. However, I wouldn't bat an eye at the thought of Osama bin Laden being put to death. I really don't want to see him a martyr of his cause, but he's beyond criminal. I think there's already an extra special place in hell carved out for that man.

As for abortion, I really don't like to see it used birth control. However, if a woman is has an egg implanted in her fallopian tube, and this sort of pregnancy is 1) not going to go to full term anyway and 2) could quite likely kill her, I then think the lesser of two evils is then in order.

In my mind there seems to always be an exception to every rule.

I get a kick out of anti abortion people that do nothing to help the kids that are already here. Its easy to say it's wrong but have you ever work with a kid whose mother burned his testicles to scare the demons out of him? Have you ever tried to teach trust to a 10 year old boy that has been raped by his father? When was the last time you had to put ointment on a kids back that was beaten with a extension cord? I have 12 years working in group homes and though I can't say I agree with abortion, I would rather see it legal than see the boom in mistreated kids that would follow its removal as a option. Maybe you could put the same energy into raising some money for a local orphanage as you do trying to take away a women's right to choose.

In a perfect world, Yes, your position would be right. BUT we are not in a perfect world.
We need to defend our freedom and security, so at times war is a necessary evil.
To take a life that is innocent is murder. To put to death the guilty is killing. Murder is a sin, Killing the guilty is a necessary evil. From a scriptural perspective..."Thou shalt not kill" is literally translated "Thou shalt do no murder" difference being murder is of the innocent, killing on the other hand is getting rid of the guilty so as to keep the sin from repeating itself and permeating society. Dead men don't speak, kill or teach others their sick ways.
As far as the military and weapons, unfortunately we need them to a degree and our ability to prevent highly destructive weapons in the hands of reckless and sadistic people is limited at best. We must defend ourselves!
Not all of these acts are acts of violence, some are for our safety and protection. Some on the other hand are horrific especially taking the life of an unborn child in any form.
Now to address your final question, It has always been time to respect human rights and human life but as long as sin exists in this world there will be those who violate others rights and punishment needs to be executed. That is scripturally justified and necessary.

It iseasy be 'anti' things that others do, or happen far away.
Many Frenchmen were 'anti-war' in 1939 and look what happened.
You raise the paradox that some people believe that human life is so sacred that they are are prepared to kill or be killed, in order to save the lives and liberties of their fellow-countrymen.

I can see your point it is funny how people draw their moral lines.

I like to know what is your solution if we are attack what kind of defense do you allow?

I like to think we live in the world where we all think that way it would be a better place but we don't and I don't know what the solution would be to get there.

Well I'm against all these things too and believe in respecting life and not playing god yet I think you have to differ and other people may have totally different arguments than you do.It's not wrong or shallow to have a different opinion on different things.Just an example: many people would tell you that it is not medically proven that an embryo can feel.
