wow....you don't know roald dahl.....i'm quite lost for words...
he is a really famous author...born in norway, lived in england. he served in the 2nd world war, and wrote many, many stories.
his most famous works are children's books like charlie and the chocolate factory, the BFG, boy, going solo, danny the champion of the world, james and the giant peach, witches...there are more but they seem to have slipped my mind at the moment...doubtless i shall recall them when i do not need to...
he also wrote a large number of short stories for adults. these were published in anthologies...some are horror, some are about underdogs and such and some are about ww2. these stories all have his trademark loony-ness in them, and they are great reads. among his best stories are katina, switch *****, royal jelly...
i really recommend that you get your hands on any roald dahl book and start reading. it would be best to start with boy....it would give you a very clear idea of who roald dahl really is
cheers

Roald Dahl is the author of numerous books for both children and adults. He was born on 13th September 1916 and his parents were Norwegian, hence his name.
He wrote more than 40 books during his lifetime and total sales of UK editions alone exceeds 40 million. He sells around 2 million books a year, even now.
He was married twice and his granddaughter is the model Sophie Dahl, who appeared as a character in the BFG.

Are you American? It seems that Americans miss out on so many great authors because they were not born there. Dahl was born in Scandinavia (Norway, I think) (read Boy to check). He wrote so many great kids stories that we often forget the horrors he wrote for adults (Switch ***** is a good example). Brilliant and, unfortunately, recently dead.
