most definitely. that was a term used to refer to African American slaves in 17 to 1800s American states and colonies.it was meant as a berating name used to insult the "lower "caste"" of people. so when its used today, it has some reference to a time of suffering for a group of people who were hated and scorned because they looked different then the white settlers.
