Austria and Germany I think. And that song.
Oh Tannenbaum Oh Tannenbaum. Except for the spelling. Found it.

TEXT: Ernst Anschütz, 1824
MELODIE: Volksweise (traditional)

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
Du grünst nicht nur
zur Sommerzeit,
Nein auch im Winter, wenn es schneit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!
Wie oft hat nicht zur Weihnachtszeit
Ein Baum von dir mich hoch erfreut!
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Dein Kleid will mich
was lehren:
Die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit
Gibt Trost und Kraft
zu jeder Zeit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!
Das soll dein Kleid
mich lehren.

The English word are lovely too. Oh Christmas Tree.

My mom is from Germany and we have always celebrated Christmas on the 24th of December. The song that we sing is O Tannenbaum. We have all learned to sing it in German. We can't sing on key, but at least we all know the words!

In the USA it is less a question of country celebration on the 24th as it is religion and/or family tradition.

Many families open their gifts on Christmas Eve....others wait until Christmas Morning...depends

Even in the US many families prefer to do their celebration on Christmas Eve. Would "Silent Night" be the song you're thinking of?

Norway does. They believe it is the night when Jule Nissen (the Christmas Elf) appears. When I was a newlywed I set out a bowl of milk and cookies for Jule Nissen in front of our apartment. My wife thought I was nuts. The next morning bot were gone. My wife says some cat got them. I never met a cat that like cinnamon cookies.
The only Christmas song I know in Norwegian is a nasty version of "Silent Night".

I am married to a Polish man and they celebrate on the 24th. The 25th is just another day for them

We do both. Everyone (especially the kids) gets to open one gift on Christmas Eve. The rest get opened on Christmas
Day. I think the song or carol is "Silent Night" or "Here
Comes Santa Claus".
