Initially I thought its just Be. but now I think perhaps there is something beyond this worldly felt "Just Be". The real essence is something beyond all these to be felt for Real.

May be Patience is the key to reach that threshold for the strike of THAT.

In a certain Yogic discipline, a spiritual system, they teach you that everyone has identities in six levels in this life: 1. Professional id. 2. Relational id. (someone's son, someone's brother/sister, friend, other relation etc.) 3. Skill related, or, talent related id. ("i can do this..." "i can do that..." "i sing" "i draw and paint" etc. etc.) 4. 'Down-to-Earth' id. (as a human, as an average person, as a person blessed with the opportunity to be born a human with a chance to serve humanity, serve God!) 5. "Soul" related id. (a spiritual level recognition of self! the beginning of Realisation!), and, finally, 6. 'The Nothing' id. (the Realisation that "i am Nothing!") The essence of life, should be a passage through these id's, at various stages of life, having the facility, the wisdom, the humility, to examine these identities, in appropriate contexts, in befitting manner, and being able to find fullfilment in the Realisation that the true identity merges with that great, supreme, sublime "Nothingness" ! Life's Mission is to do that passage gracefully, not giving up the Dharma, not giving up your people, not wasting your talents, not missing a chance to be useful to the society, and, taking time off suitably to communicate with your inner self, the soul, and , finally, not resisting 'the call', 'the vibrations', from the higher identity, "Nothingness"! That mission is the essence of life!

I think none of those. I think the essence of life is working towards those goals. Seriously, its much more fun to be on the road to being rich and famous, than to already be rich and famous, but with nothing more to look forward to.

The real essence of life lies in doing/seeing or being a part of something that is greater than life.
Imagine yourself in space. Going for a trip on Mars. You meet aliean, visit their city, and learn about god. You are the only human ever to have witnissed something like this and can not tell it to any one else. You have to die keeping this secret in your heart, buried after death.
Just Imagine such an experience

I think the essence of life is best described by this passage from "The Tao of Pooh".

"While Eeyore frets ...
... and Piglet hesitates
... and Rabbit calculates
... and Owl pontificates
...Pooh just is."

Be like Winnie the Pooh. It's not about being anything, it's about just being.
