why stop?

if you have no need to, then you can continue to breastfeed for as long as you wish to, theres no set maximum time for you to have to stop, only the percieved social ideal what babies shouldn't be breastfed so old.

the only way to change the social view, is you change your perceptions on the matter, so really? why stop if you really don't want to?

the longer you breastfeed, the healthier and more protected you and baby will be against various conditions and illnesses, as well as being able to continue to improve the mother/child bond.

if you wanted, you could also pump and use the milk in a variety of different recipies, or even donate your milk to other babies in need. theres nothing more valiant in the world, then a woman donating her milk for the sick babies of the world.

since you've already stopped, you could choose to do either of these i suppose.

Oh totally!! I got really sick when my son was 8mths old (my second) and I couldn't feed him anymore and decided to save us both the trauma I would wean him onto formula. I was so upset for weeks afterward because I never expected to be able to enjoy the feeling of breastfeeding anymore. I kind of felt robbed of it because it wasn't his or my decision to stop, it was a necessity. Surprisingly I have just found out I am pregnant again and am so elated that I get another go at it! Hopefully on my terms this time, not the medications terms, lol!

I know I will feel really down again when I end up weaning this baby but I'm hopping that the knowledge of giving my kids the best start in life will put my mind at ease.
It is sad to let go but its also the start of another era in your and your childrens lives.

Best of luck and enjoy the fact you are going to get to wear pretty bras again!

When my first weaned ME I was so sad. She began refusing the breast wanting baby food and formula. She wanted to crawl all over the place and look around, even in a dark quiet room.

We weaned very ,very slowly to ease me down gently. I felt a sense of grief for losing our nursing relationship.

In a few months it will seem like no big deal, but at first I was real sad.
