There is no computer you can buy today or ever that won't need upgrading within 10 years unless you only use the most basic functions such as web browsing and Word...4-5 years is the max you can go without doing something about your pc...regardless if you spend 20.000 $$ on it. The world of computers and IT is the fastest evolving technology on the planet. i have an FX-60 Amd which was the best you could get 2 years ago...

Its old by todays standard...and this is only after 2 years. Im not worried about upgrading..but within 2 years i know i will have to.

Check www.newegg.com for good offers on highend prebuilt pc's

Stay away from brands such as Dell and HP..why? just do a google search on "Don't buy a Dell"

Listen, try to buy one from Dell. I know they don't have a lot around, but you want to aim for at least Acer. HP and Toshiba stink. They will break down in a couple of years. You find a lot of these at futureshop and computer stores becasue they want you to buy the junk. If you can't get a dell, Try getting the Acer AM5630, with Intel Core 2 Quad and 2 megabytes RAM. It also has a 320gb hard drive and comes loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium. The bad thing is, if your a gamer, it's probably not the best choice for a computer because of it's integrated graphics. If you have a little extra, go for the nVIDIA Geforce 8.

Ten years is way too long a goal to go for, stretching a top-of-line today for 5 years is about what painfully can be done, unless you only play today's games not beyond that.

Intel Core Quad, soon be contested with AMD X4 but it is undisputed now. Everything else going the most costly item you can buy.

Hi,
If money is not a problem you should go for everything in the market which is best. But nobody can guarantee that it will last ten years, because chips are developing too fast.In one or two years your PC will be obsolete.Go for Dual core or Core2Duo,u choose ur motherboard as per ur graphics card,Bose sound systems are nice.Try this.

Call Dell, they build very good, dependable and fast machines, depending on how much you are planning on spending of course.
They use Pentium technology and use only the finest components.
They also have one of the best warranties in the market!
