You need basics - 512Mb ram, 1.5GHz processor - internet browsing is not 'hard' for any computer, and so a low-end computer/notebook will do just fine.

If that and some homework stuff is your aim get a $400 Asus eee PC, better yet go to flee market and get some obsolete laptop, I got my P3 Panasonic Toughbook for $50 and it is the very machine I am surfing on.

Even a 1.0 GHz machine is an overkill for your intended use. 512 megs with 4 GB hard drive is about all that you might need.

well in this case u dont need any expensive lap top you can go for any cheapest one but remember it should be without Vista cause vista sucks up the ram pretty hard , it can be presario v 6000 with 512 MB ram and 80 GB harddisk which is the cheapest in the market these days and get installed XP with service pack 2 and any anti virus lets say macfee or norton does best but remember to update them or they will of no use then

Processing power is going to be less important for you due to your type of usage. 1.6GHz and higher should be fine.

What I would certainly advise, however, is putting your budget into purchasing a unit with 2GB of RAM if it is shipped with Windows Vista (I think all do now).
