What a way to achieve the above! I'd rather win the lottery or be another Trump, Sugar or just me. (not justme on YA by the way) Is the whole fiasco money orientated?

Yes sireeeee Bob. They are now famous, Gerry even has his own personal bodyguard when he goes to work. They have access to a million pounds plus fund and are going to sue the world and his uncle to try and get even more money. As for poor little Madeleine, well she hardly gets a mention you only have to read Gerry's blog to see that.

No one would ever have heard of the McCanns had it not been for Madeleine going missing but I'd hate to think it's a money-making scheme. I don't think it is. That would just be pure evil and worse still if it turned out they were involved (which I'm not sure they were)

Firstly, theres a world of a difference between fame & notoriety. Those who slate the the McCanns will be happy to note this.

Secondly, the global recognition the McCanns sought was NOT for themselves. It was for their Madeleine.

Its only because of their persistent efforts to keep her in the news and to spread awareness of her, despite the flak they constantly receive, that you & i & a host of others here discuss her daily.

It was never about money. At least not for themselves. They have repeatedly stated that once they have proof that their baby is no more the fund will be donated to the cause of missing children in her memory. In the meantime, they use it to help find her (PIs are very expensive) and to tide them thru' this dark phase.

rather they have achieved infamy and notoriety, and as for global recognition and fortune,im sure they would trade everything to have their child back unharmed, and go back to their normal lives, out of the spotlight and hostile media attention.

Of course it has, they created the media monster, I'm just glad I don't have to live their lives. BTW, I do hope they find Madeleine.

Let's see - what extravagant lifestyle had they shown? They're not even allowed to pay the mortgage from the fund. Sorry, I think you need a bit more evidence to substantiate your claims.
They might have got global recognition, but at what cost? You'd have to organise the murder of your child to achieve this.

Global Recognition? No I don't think the people of Dafur or Somalia , Myanmar, Congo, Mongolia, The Galapagos Islands etc. have any idea who Madeleine McCann is - unfortunately.

What is fortunate about having your child stolen?
