This may be a stupid question, but can a motherboard run memory that is at a lower speed than the motherboards specs?

For example, can a motherboard with Memory Standard DDR2 667 240pin run DD2 533 240 pin memory?

YES! Anytime! Motherboards typically support more than one memory speed grade. Memory modules carry SPD info which BIOS could extract to set the proper RAM speed and timings, but only up to the level that the motherboard supports.

Yes as long as it's DDR2, 240 pin. Although it might have issues.
