Just load fail-safe defaults in BIOS, save and exit. You should be in business in no time at all.

Set the BIOS default, actually there is nothing t o play with BIOS when installing Windows Vista. However you may need to set your Boot Device Order/Priority to CD-ROM if you are doing a Clean Install.

If you don't have a manual and don't know what you are doing, you can absolutely destroy your BIOS chip, processor chip and the motherboard.
O.S. systems are designed to operate in conjunction with the Bios installed at the factory.
