I agree with "detour." I used to be a waiter and had a station with 6 to 7 tables. I never interrupted the diners after they had been served to ask if their food was ok. I used to walk my station and make eye-contact with persons at the table and if they needed something or had a problem, they could tell me without my interruption of their dinner. Wait staff always seems to interrupt me when I have my mouth full. Another good techniques is just to walk your station constantly with water, coffee etc. and make eye contact.

I hate a waitress/waiter that comes to my table too often and asks is everything all right a million times and I hate kids that are near you coffing or yelling or running around or noisey. I hate lousy fast food I want homemade food.
